Broken Walls

September 21, 2018

This poem is a little more political than the others I have written and shared here. This one is called Broken Walls.

The room we share has been defiled and maimed
our walls are blanched, the ceiling gave in way
of freedoms promised; actions now betrayed-
to those who sought refuge, what were their names?
they hold the weapons, then refuse the blame;
standing over bodies say “seize the day.”
They’ll close their eyes while bowing down to pray;
is there a God who would not feel shamed?

Privileged is he, who carries no burden-
proclaims color blindness, draws the curtain
the weight is lifted when the news has passed
and left are those trapped in homes of glass.
You’re safe, they’ll say, as rocks from their hands roam.
then they’ll ask, how could you break your own home?
